A conference becomes a quarantine

Biotechnologist Kwon Se-jeong attends a conference at Chains Bio. Her ex-husband Han Gyu-seong hopes the event will help her find work. Researcher Seo Young-cheol turns the gathering into an attack, infecting CEO Kang Woo-cheol. The authorities seal the building while the outbreak spreads among people trapped inside.

Security guard Choi Hyun-seok and his sister Hyun-hee join the survivors. Early evasions exploit the infected's limited perception, but synchronized pauses signal changes in the horde. Tricks involving human images and scent cannot remain reliable once the colony learns. Gyu-seong dies while helping a frightened girl, leaving Se-jeong to face his wife Gong Seol-hee's call.

The rescue plan breaks apart

Seo sabotages the survivors' movement and connects directly to the infected. Se-jeong recognizes that he can receive information through their senses. Blindfolding him and switching to written communication are attempts to close that channel, rather than permanent protection.

Hyun-hee directs the group through surveillance cameras. When her location is exposed, she leads her brother away from danger while the infected reach her. Her death drives Hyun-seok into a furious hunt. The two schoolgirls also fall victim to the colony's growing ability to imitate rescuers. The wrong target and the final confrontation

Outside, Seol-hee investigates infected laboratory monkeys. Killing their dominant host makes the others dormant. Officials apply this discovery to Kang, but killing the first visible human victim does not stop the outbreak: Seo is the controlling host.

Seo's connection to Se-jeong is personal. He blames her exposure of his father's misconduct for the tragedy that followed. His proposed answer to human misunderstanding is compulsory shared consciousness. Meanwhile, armed infected overwhelm the extraction operation, and containment fails.

Se-jeong uses a contaminated coat to pass through the infected. With Seol-hee guiding her remotely, she turns the horde's pursuit into a circular feedback trap. Ending Explained

Why killing Kang does not work

Being the first visible victim and being the network's controller are different roles. The failed attack on Kang exposes that distinction. Seo's death, rather than Kang's, triggers the mass dormancy.

What the ant-mill trap does

The contaminated coat redirects the colony into a circular pursuit. This disrupts its coordination; it does not deliver a synthesized cure. Its regression creates the opening Se-jeong needs to turn its own attack against Seo.

Does the final movement mean another outbreak?

A supposedly dormant infected person moves in the closing shot. That undermines certainty about permanent containment. It does not identify a replacement controller, prove recovered human consciousness, or confirm a sequel's plot. Reports of a rooftop counteragent finale do not match the ending corroborated here.
